About Gilbert Coleman, Ph.D.

Gilbert Coleman, Ph.D. received his undergraduate education at the University of Southern California. His bachelor of arts degree is in Economics and Mathematics. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the Trustees' Award as the male graduate with the highest grade point average in 1977. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Epsilon. Dr. Coleman did his graduate work at Stanford University. He was named a Sloan Fellow during his second and third years in the Economics graduate program. His master of science degree is in Operations Research and was received in 1980. His doctorate is in Economics and was received in 1983. Dr. Coleman wrote his dissertation on regulation of the railroad industry.

Dr. Coleman began his professional career as an intern for the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation prior to his graduation from Stanford. He worked as a research assistant for the consulting firm of Rosse and Olszewski in Palo Alto, California during his time at Stanford. After leaving Stanford, he took a position with Merrill Lynch IBAR, a consulting firm that is a subsidiary of Merrill Lynch, Inc. Dr. Coleman was an assistant professor at the University of Nevada, Reno from January of 1983 to June of 1986. He has continued to teach on an adjunct basis at UNR since leaving full time employment there.

Dr. Coleman has been named to Who's Who in Business and Industry in 1991 through 1997, Who's Who in Science and Engineering in 1993 through 1997, and Who's Who in the West 1996 and 1997. He is a member of the American Economics Association.
